Final Presentation

AtlasPak is working towards a greener future in the food packaging industry with a bio-based alternative to single-use plastics, which comprise 95% of food packaging. With the constant reminder of the consequences of plastic waste on human and environmental health, it is more important than ever to shift to sustainable alternatives. Our product makes it easy to embrace eco-friendly options in your everyday coffee shop or grocery store visit.

AtlasPak has evaluated the existing field of alternative plastic packaging materials and identified a space in the market for a biodegradable alternative that does not compromise durability and function. Our team has utilized university research to ensure that AtlasPak is safe for the environment while also matching the strengths of traditional plastic packaging. Using bio-friendly alternatives like mucilage and agar-agar as the biopolymer, we created a biodegradable film. These films used succinic acid as a cross-linker and glycerol as a plasticizer to achieve a flexible film that can be used to wrap and hold different food items.

AtlasPak’s novel formulation will be one of the first food packaging options on the market that fully degrades under standard conditions, allowing businesses and their customers to meet eco-friendly goals.
